Publication Announcement – First 2.75 volumes of Blake/An Illustrated Quarterly published from 1967-69

In 2014 the William Blake Archive added a new wing devoted to searchable HTML and PDF editions of back issues of Blake/An Illustrated Quarterly, beginning with issues from the years 2000-2009. In 2015 we added the forty issues from 1990 to 2000 and five issues published since 2010. Earlier this year we announced the publication of the quarterly’s forty issues from 1980 to 1990. Today we are pleased to publish the first two volumes and three issues of the third volume, 1967-69, of what began as the Blake Newsletter—$2 for four issues.

Publication Announcement – Past issues of Blake/An Illustrated Quarterly published from 1980-89

In 2014 the William Blake Archive added a new wing devoted to searchable HTML and PDF editions of back issues of Blake/An Illustrated Quarterly, beginning with issues from the years 2000-2009. In 2015 we added the forty issues from 1990 to 2000 and five issues published since 2010.

The Archive is now pleased to announce the publication of the quarterly’s forty issues from 1980 to 1990.

Publication Announcement – Genesis manuscript

The William Blake Archive is pleased to announce the publication of an electronic edition of the Genesis manuscript from the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens.

In the last year of his life, Blake began an illuminated manuscript of the biblical Book of Genesis for his patron, John Linnell. Of its eleven large leaves, probably cut from Whatman Imperial-sized wove paper, the first two are title pages.

The William Blake Archive is pleased to announce the publication of electronic editions of Songs of Innocence Copies I, X, and Z from the Huntington Library and Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Victoria, and the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Munich. They join Copies B from the Library of Congress, G from the Yale Center for British Art, L from the Bodleian Library, and U from the Houghton Library.

Publication Announcement – 17 pen and ink drawings and 50 past issues of Blake/An Illustrated Quarterly (1990-2000, 2010)

The William Blake Archive is pleased to announce the publication of seventeen pen and ink drawings by Blake. Ranging chronologically from his apprenticeship as an engraver to the final decade of his life, this group offers a comprehensive overview of his work in the medium. Most were created when Blake was learning his craft as an artist and reveal his exploration of various themes and genres. His apprentice drawings for James Basire (The Body of Edward I and Countess Aveline) show his early engagement with medieval art. Another group (two drawings titled Figures from a Greek Vase and Charon) is clearly based on classical art or mythology, responses to which were central to British art and design in the second half of the eighteenth century. Publication Announcement – There is No Natural Religion Copies A, D, and M

The William Blake Archive is pleased to announce the publication of electronic editions of There is No Natural Religion Copies A, D, and M, from the British Museum, Houghton Library, and Victoria and Albert Museum respectively. They join Copy B, from Yale Center for British Art, Copy C, from the Library of Congress, and Copies G1-2 and L, from the Morgan Library and Museum. The Archive now has all seven extant copies of this illuminated book, making There is No Natural Religion the sixth illuminated book with its entire publishing history reproduced in the Archive, joining The Song of LosMilton a Poem, All Religions are One, The Book of Ahania, and The Book of Los. Publication Announcement – Water color illustrations to Dante’s Divine Comedy

The William Blake Archive is pleased to announce the publication of a fully searchable electronic edition of Blake’s water color illustrations to Dante’s Divine Comedy. The Archive first published these in January 2005 in our Preview mode. This republication substantially increases the number and range of Blake’s pictorial motifs available for searching on the Archive. The 7 engravings illustrating Dante’s poem continue to be available in the Archive in Preview mode.

Publication Announcement – The Song of Los Copy F

The William Blake Archive is pleased to announce the publication of an electronic edition of The Song of Los Copy F, from the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Munich, Germany. It joins Copies A and D from the British Museum, Copy B from the Library of Congress, Copy C from the Morgan Library and Museum, and Copy E from the Huntington Library. The Archive now has all six extant copies of this illuminated book, making The Song of Los the fifth illuminated book whose entire publishing history is reproduced in the Archive, joining Milton a Poem, All Religions are One, The Book of Ahania, and The Book of Los. The Archive will add The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and all complete copies of There is No Natural Religion to the list later this year.
